When a Successful Stylist Trades her Hollywood Hustle for the Bustling Life of Motherhood, Beautiful Things Happen.

And when we say beautiful, we mean just copy and paste the style, the interiors, the adorable blonde bros—we’ll take one of everything. Meet the effortlessly cool Alyse Wysocki, mom of Wyatt and Bowie in her stunning, California Ranch style home. From the layered details of new and found items, vintage furniture and rugs, worldly finds and heirloom paintings, to the adorable little towhead with a scruffy voice and comedic-worthy timing, we got a taste of her version of mom life and the California dream Alyse with her husband, Robbie have created in the historical town of Olivenhain, CA.

What was career Alyse like before Wyatt and Bowie made you a mother?

I was doing wardrobe/styling in LA before moving down here. I worked on commercials, music videos, etc. I had really long days on set, and I couldn’t see myself doing that job with kids. When we decided to move down south (right before we got married) I transitioned into freelance home styling, set design, and home staging.

That makes sense. One quick pit stop on your Instagram home reno highlights, it’s very clear you have a knack for design. Did you design your house on your own or did you work with an interior designer?

Thanks! We went in clueless and gung ho. I’ve always loved design and styling, so I was super excited to design our first home. My only real goal for the house was that I wanted it to feel cozy and homey. Design is very important to me so I obviously wanted it to look beautiful, but more than anything wanted it to feel casual and comfortable for both guests and ourselves.

So what is your philosophy when it comes to your personal style and interior style?

Design for the life you have. I read that in a book and it really stuck with me. Design/shop/wear what is realistic for your current life. It’s no fun to get things you have to be too precious about when you have little people with grimy little hands:)

Stepping up to motherhood is probably one of the most challenging and rewarding positions a woman can be in. Are there any influences from the past (your own mom, mentors, books, podcasts, etc, that have helped guide how you mother?

I’ve always been super close with my mom, and she set a great example for me to try and follow as I became a mother myself. She was an ER nurse for many years, and she’s just very cool and calm under pressure. So I’d like to think some of that carried over to me.

There are also a couple social media accounts about parenting I really like. Big Little Feelings, Dr. Becky. I love referencing them, especially if I’m feeling in a parenting rut, or dealing with something new with one of the boys and I feel unsure of how to handle it. I try to trust my gut when it comes to parenting, but these references really help guide me when needed.

Are there any rituals or traditions from your childhood that you have now passed down to your children?

My sister and I loved Tom Petty’s Zombie Zoo, and my dad has old VHS tapes of us dancing on the couch to it. Now Wyatt and I will have dance parties after dinner and he will yell “Alexa! Play Zombie Zoo!” It's the best!

Wyatt and I love baking and gardening together, so hopefully that will be our little tradition.

What is your favorite space in the house?

Wyatt’s room seems to be the spot we all end up hanging out in lately, so that room right now. We also spend a lot of time outside with the whole family. My husband makes pizzas in our pizza oven and the boys tend to Wyatt’s garden.

We know kids aren’t always perfect (and neither are we!). How do you get through the hard days, when all hell breaks loose and you’ve reached your limit? How do you reset?

My husband is a really great partner, so if I’ve hit my limit he will usually take over and tell me to go on a walk or he will bring the kids out on a walk so I can have some solo time. I’ve heard when kids are cranky/grumpy, the solution is usually getting in water or going outside. I think the same is true for adults. I know a walk outside or beach walk/even a long shower will make me feel better. Other times, it’s just getting through the bedtime routine so I can have a glass of wine and a piece of chocolate.

Speaking of the outdoors, What are some of your favorite outings with your trio? Where are you going and what are you typically stashing in your snack bag?

The beach and nature walks! There’s a great walk we go in in our area where we get to see chickens and horses that we all love. Wyatt has named all the chickens, and when we get there he always says “Good morning girls!”. I may have egged him on to start saying that. I also love a weekend outing to get VG’s Donuts or breakfast empanadas at Bump Coffee where we scooter/skateboard/stroller after. No matter how short the journey, Wyatt ALWAYS has to pack snacks. Our snacks are usually dried mango, simple mills crackers, apples.

You have Wyatt in an all outdoor preschool. Was there an intention behind this choice vs. traditional preschool?

We both really loved the idea of him being outside as much as possible. He never wants to leave and comes home covered in dirt. He loves plants and animals and we just want to foster that as much as possible.

Is there a memory with your family that instantly makes you smile?

When labor was starting with Bowie early in the morning, Robbie and I went into Wyatt’s room and told him it was the day that Bowie was coming, he got the biggest smile on his face. It was a beautiful moment

Mom wardrobe: What pieces or brands make you feel your best while you do everything you can to make your kids feel their best?

I really try to stick with quality over quantity. I also tend to gravitate towards things that are dry clean only… So lately I’ve been trying to ask myself “can I wear this to the park?” when shopping. It’s helped me dial in my everyday clothing a bit more.

I love Buck Mason sweatshirts or a good vintage find. Doen has such special but wearable pieces. Etsy has great vintage for myself and the boys. Linen is always a go to since we live near the beach. If I'm short on time and sleep, which I usually am, a brainless outfit for me is a jumpsuit or a dress. I’ll put on something tried and true that I love and feel good in.

What is something you hope to pass down to your children?

It sounds cliche but to be kind. To value memories and time with loved ones over things. To prioritize happiness.

To be a good mother is to...

  • To give all your love, to be there for them. Trying your best every day.

If you are having a day to yourself you are...

  • I can’t even imagine what that is right now haha. But it would involve a lot of time in bed, then maybe a morning beach walk with coffee.

Go-to places to shop for yourself and your kids...

  • Kids: Mabo kids, Zara, Roux Kids. Quincy Mae has the softest baby clothes!

  • Mama: Doen, Deiji Studios, Shopbop, vintage.

Insta interior inspo go-to accounts...

  • Nickey Kehoe, Reath Design. I love an imperfect, eclectic, lived in space. I also really love Leanne Ford. It’s one thing to design an amazing home with an unlimited budget, but to be able to make something beautiful and unique by being resourceful and creative is something I’m always drawn to, which I think Leanne Ford does so well.

5 favorite pieces in your home

  • A framed photo of my father in law interviewing Muhammad Ali in the 70’s.

  • My green Lucy Michel mug I use every morning.

  • The vintage french doors in the living room.

  • A photo of my boys tooshies laying in the grass that’s hanging in my bathroom.

  • The boys matching chair/highchairs. They convert from a high chair to a regular chair for when they get older.
